Bronwyn Blagoev has more than 20 years’ experience in supporting Queensland’s local governments. With significant experience in policy and legislation, she has led key reforms for the Queensland Government most recently in relation to the councillor complaints system.

Prior to being appointed as Independent Assessor in April 2024, Bronwyn spent a decade as Executive Director, Local Government within the Queensland Government. During this time she led work to help councillors to understand the complex nature of their roles and responsibilities and assisted councils to deliver vital infrastructure.

Bronwyn is passionate about helping to build the capacity and long-term sustainability of local governments so they can continue to deliver for their communities. Originally from Balonne Shire, Bronwyn has a particular interest in the important role of local governments in regional Queensland.

She is a long-term advocate of the state’s local government integrity reform agenda and brings this support and her extensive sector knowledge and experience to the role of Independent Assessor.

While Acting Independent Assessor from November 2023 until her appointment, Bronwyn worked closely with stakeholders to improve the councillor complaints system and embed the Office of the Independent Assessor as a vital and valued partner in the drive to build councillor capability.

Bronwyn is a strong believer in mentoring others and creating workplaces where staff feel valued.
